Now that I have a decent computer (relative to my former machines--a Cyrix 6x86 P120+ and a Pentium 200 MMX laptop), I decided, on a whim, to install a game that didn't play quite well on the laptop. All of the disk I/O portions (saving/loading games) took way too long, anywhere from 25-45 seconds sometimes.
Now that I loaded it on my current machine, it's pretty zippy. I can do quick-saves and it literally does them. I even loaded the entirety of the 6 CD-ROMs onto my harddrive, so I don't have to do all that disc-swapping.
Of course, it's just sucked me into playing it for hours on end.
On Friday, I played Baldur's Gate
from when I got home until about 6:30 AM.
On Saturday, I played it from about 1:00 PM until about 3:00 PM, went to Best Buy and then CompUSA. After I picked up some dinner, I played from 6:00 PM until about 6:30 AM (not counting daylight savings changes).
On Sunday, I played from 1:00 PM until about 1:45 when khubli
called me to go eat Dim Sum. I got home after at about 3:30, played until 8:00 or so, went to DuPree's, then played when I got home at 9:30 until 12:00 AM.
