2007.0712.2015::Five questions
[ | | | ]
THE RULES:
  1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favourite lyric to your current favourite song. Or your favorite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.
  2. I'll respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.</li>
  3. Update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
  4. Include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
  5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

From cee_m, my first set of questions...
  1. If you had to describe your life with one song, what would it be?
Just one? Two years ago, it would have been "Restless" by Rumbleseat, eight years ago it would have been "Al's War" by Less Than Jake. Twelve years ago, "In Sadding Around" by Jawbreaker, and eighteen would be a-ha's "The Sun Always Shines on T.V."

Now? I think I'm pretty partial to "Our Own Way" by Hot Water Music

  2. What cheesy '80s movie would you want to have lived? (as what character)
If we go strictly with the 80's part of that question, I'd have to say Lane Meyer from Better Off Dead. I mean, he's got a kick-ass late '60s Camaro, the love of a fine French woman, and his only worry is that he has to scrounge up two dollars for the strangely homicidal paperboy.

If we err on the side of cheese, however, then of course, it's Flash Gordon from the eponymous movie. Princess Aura, rocket cycles, and music that went with that old Vanguard video game that was composed by Queen. Go, Flash! Go!

  3. Other than computers what invention do you think has changed your life the most?
Because "the Internet" would likely fall under the umbrella of "computers," I guess I have to choose something different. While most people who know me would expect me to say the TiVo, that device would be pretty useless without the television.

And without the television I couldn't possibly enjoy the wealth of movies that are constantly replaying in my head.

  4. What's your favorite kind of ice cream?
Most of the time, I tend to prefer sorbet or gelato; but couple of weeks ago, I went to IKEA and got a soft-serve vanilla cone three days in a row.

So, in essence, my favorite kind of ice cream is the cold kind...

  5. Can you see yourself married with kids and such?
    Yes, indeed.

Either nothing is random, or everything is.

  1. Which is better, Carolina-style or Texas-style barbeque?
  2. Given your choice of your run-of-the-mill, commercially-bottled beers, what's your guilty pleasure?
  3. Regarding homebrew, is it the brewing or the drinking?
  4. What programming project are you most proud of?
  5. As someone who likes the real thing, what are your thoughts about Guitar Hero?

sparkssc::2007.07.14.06:11 am::Wow
Those are awesome questions.

1) I love 'em both, but my allegiance is to Texas 'cue.

2) Miller High Life.

3) The brewing. I like beer and all, but mostly I love making things.

4) Back in the old days I was a coder for an underground art group called iCE. I wrote an ANSI viewer that used smooth scrolling, the first of its kind. Many people tried to duplicate it, but until the Win32 GUI made DOS obsolete, it was the reigning king of ANSI viewers.

5) It's a great game, and I totally suck at it. I love watching my friends play it, though.

[User Picture]I have to second the Texas style BBQ. Val and I have tried some Carolina style stuff and I'm not real fond of the mustard based sauces.

Er.. that should read, "If you could play as only one character from the Soul Calibur series from here on out, who would it be and why?"

Who talks like that?

  1. Who's cooler, Optimus Prime or Godzilla?
Godzilla--biology always trumps technology. I know it's confusing, since you can improve anything by adding Optimus Prime, but that's just one of his super powers.
  2. If you could only play as one character the Soul Calibur series from here on out, who would it be, and why?
Either Raphael, who has the highest irritation quotient, or Astaroth, who punches me the hell out. Worms!
  3. Jet or Bruce?
    Bruce. Jet's the finger.
  4. Have you played Lego Star Wars yet?
No. Maybe I need some Krystals. Get the kite, Beavis.
  5. Are you the King of the forest?
Dude, if you have to ask, you'll never know.

Daddy Long Legs, I fear I'm finally growing weary of waiting to be consumed by you.

1. What item would you first throw away from my condo if you had the opportunity to get in and start de-cluttering?

The random empty boxes and containers which are currently not holding anything. All the recycles and shredding would be dealt with and then it would NOT BE THERE ANYMORE.

2. Is there anything you would keep in my place, even though you know it's not appropriately used and/or functional?

I’m not sure I understand the question. But I would pretty much throw out everything except your futon, bed, dresser, computer, dishes and chopsticks, other FUNCTIONING electronics, and the clothes you have worn in the last year. I would put all the action figures, comic books and most of the real books and DVDs books in a storage unit. However, if you mean something that you don’t actually USE but love? I would keep your Sunshine People, cause they are *teh cute.* I also like your Asian art and the curtains.

3. What items do you own that you know you should probably throw out, but you keep out of sentimental reasons?

I keep a heavily embroidered Bavarian blouse of my mother’s, about 400 postcards my father has sent me from all over the country, and my debutante gown, because I will never be that skinny again. I also have a really hideous, high-school-ceramics-class, avocado green luminary that my brother made. It has been repurposed as my pencil holder for the last six years :)

4. Name the top five cities that you would like to live in apart from Atlanta and Cocoa Beach. Where do Atlanta and Cocoa Beach rate between those cities?

Portland, Oregon – because it’s so green and lush, and the people there really seems to connect to their environment. It was SO nice visiting a Blue State this past weekend.

Prague, Czech Republic – very beautiful city and the dollar is strong there. I could just walk around for days just looking (and eating).

Anywhere my goddaughters are – because I feel like I am missing out on the wonder years.

Munich, Germany – I think bratwurst speaks for itself, and may actually be an entire food group in Germany. Munich looks a lot like the most beautiful parts of North Carolina and Tennessee…and the people are very much the same…they are friendly, stubborn, and try to feed you to death, right after telling you how much weight you’ve gained.

Rome, Italy? I have never been there, but from what I’ve read, it seems like a lovely place to gain 23 pounds. Oh, and enjoy all the art, architecture, landscapes, fountains….

I am not sure where I would rank Atlanta and Cocoa Beach. They are both places I would want to live, but not exciting places to visit. However, Cocoa Beach (in which I’ve never lived, incidentally, because I’m from Cape Canaveral) still has the beach, and there’s a lot to be said for the comforting aspects of the ocean.

5. What was your favorite moment during your most recent trip to Portland?

Sitting by the tide pool fountain while watching the kids play and smooching with you. Oh, and the cupcakes :)
